The 2006 Florida Backgammon Championship
The 2006 Florida State Backgammon Championship was due to begin on the weekend following this announcement, published on 14 August 2006.
Venue
The championship was held at the Fort Lauderdale Marriott North, 6650 North Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
Organisers
The event was organised by the South Florida Backgammon Club, run by Elayne Feinstein. Besides the state championship, the club held a regular programme of its own events at the North Ridge Raw Bar & Restaurant:
- Weekly tournaments every Saturday at 1:00 p.m.;
- Monthly tournaments on the second Sunday of each month at 1:00 p.m., with Open and Intermediate divisions.
The separate Open and Intermediate divisions let newer players compete against opponents of a similar level. Further details were available from the club director.
Players preparing for a tournament like this can review the rules of backgammon and the recommended opening moves.
