The Rhine Neckar Cup 2006: Coming Tournaments and Past Results
The Rhine Neckar Cup is a monthly backgammon tournament run by the club in Mannheim, Germany. It started in September 2003 and is normally played on the last Saturday of each month. The next tournament was announced for 28 May 2006.
Two levels of play
The cup has a champions level and a beginners level. In the champions division, everyone starts in the main tournament, a knockout played over matches of 9 to 13 points. A player who loses moves into the consolation tournament, where matches are 7 to 9 points long depending on the number of participants. The further a player has advanced in the main event, the higher he or she is placed in the consolation draw.
The beginners tournament was added in 2006. Players meet each other in a round robin or in groups, in matches of 7 to 9 points; when there are enough participants, the format follows the champions division.
Rank list and yearly final
Every point a player wins in a match is recorded on the rank list, so the winner of a 13-point match collects 13 points. Each player also receives 5 points for taking part. At the end of the year the top 32 players on the rank list qualify for the Yearly tournament.
